Family and Domestic Violence Foundations

Build your foundational knowledge of family and domestic violence.

Who: For all professionals who work closely with women, children, men and/or families and want to build a foundational knowledge of family and domestic violence, including how to recognise, response and refer. The foundations course will help you to understand:

  • What is family and domestic violence
  • Common patterns and behaviours of a person using family and domestic violence
  • Gender inequality and family and domestic violence
  • Understand the importance of pivoting to the perpetrator, maintaining a focus on perpetrator behaviour patterns and recognising survivor-victim- strengths
  • Intersections of family and domestic violence with mental health and alcohol and other drugs
  • How victim-survivors who are already marginalised/discriminated against can be further oppressed by the person using violence and ways the perpetrator may use service/system responses to cause further harm
  • Safe and effective engagement practices with victim-survivors of family and domestic violence
  • Understand how FDV-informed documentation and collaboration between services can improve responses and increase safety for adult and child victim-survivors
  • Where to refer victim-survivors for specialist support
  • Debriefing and seeking support in your workplace
